HSDS Happenings

All HSDS classes are Sundays at The Melody ClubClick here to view our weekly class schedule. We offer lessons for beginner to advanced dancers. No partner necessary! Our weekly Sunday dance is 8:30-10:30pm following the lessons.

Lessons will continue as regularly scheduled for the months of November and December.

The November and December elective will be Swing Rueda taught by Quang Nguyen and Patty Holmes, Sundays 6:30-7:30 (NEW TIME) at the Melody Club. You saw it performed at the Harvest Moon Ball, now learn this fun and easy group dance! Swing Reuda is a group dance in a circle composed of Lindy Hop moves involving a "caller" calling out the next move which seamlessly sends the follows onto her next partner in the circle. Prerequisite is completion of Lindy 1B.

HSDS Remembers Carnell Pipkin, HSDS Co-founder

What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us. - Hellen Keller
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of one of HSDS's founding members, Carnell Pipkin. Carnell started dancing in Houson in 1996 and by 1998 was an ALHC Champion. Carnell was a motivating force in the Houston Swing scene and especially for the Houston Swing Dance Society. He was the founding member/director/choreographer for the Houston HepCats and taught and competed nationally with Tena Morales. His influence lives on in the actions of his many students. He will always be remembered at HSDS. May he rest in peace. Flowers and cards may be sent to: Clay & Clay Funeral Home, 7335 Marilyn Ln, Houston, TX 77016. Contact HSDS for memorial servi ce information.

December Workshop: Hop into Competitions with Confidence with Jason and Tena

HSDS will be hosting a workshop to get you ready for competitions. Jason Esparza and Tena Morales will teach you the finer points of competing, how to get your dancing noticed on a crowded floor, how to shine in a choreographed routine, and give you the hints on what judges are looking for. Don't worry if you've never competed. This workshop will address how to start venturing into competitions locally and nationally, as well as finessing the skills of those who just can't get enough competitions.
